Reagan Youth – Degenerated (Rehearsal at Sound Bite Studios)

EXCLUSIVE: Punk Legends Reagan Youth Revamp Lineup, Announces Tour

What will the neighbors think? After a bit of recent onstage drama Trey Oswald is out as the vocalist of Reagan Youth — “Please go get help that you so desperately need,” the “members” section of the band’s Facebook page not-so-subtly reads — and former Dead Kennedy’s frontman/punk rock documentarian Jeff Penalty is in.

“There’s a moment shared by all punks — the moment when you first open your eyes and see just how fucked up the world really is,” Penalty tells Decibel. “It births an anger inside you, and punk music is the only thing that keeps that fire from burning you down. No band better captures the spirit of that discontented awakening better than Reagan Youth. Their storied past and their impact on the hardcore punk scene are humbling, and I’m honored and excited to be joining them. I never thought I’d join one infamous punk band, let alone two. Life is really fucking weird sometimes. But in an awesome way.”

“I’d rather be right than safe! That’s why we’ve brought Jeff and Rick on board, not because it’s the safe thing to do but because it’s the right thing to do,” Reagan Youth cofounder, guitarist, and all around badass adds. “The safe thing would have been for me and [Reagan Youth bassist] Tibbie X to fold it up, but I’m not going to do that.”

And…the hits keep coming: Drummer Stig Whisper has been replaced by former Dr. Know skin whaler Rick Contreras.

“I’m ecstatic to be joining the legacy that is Reagan Youth,” Contreras says. “I’ve got a lot of respect for Dave’s message and it’s great to be a part of it. Paul’s doing some amazing things with the band and Tibbie’s given it a new lease on life. Working alongside everybody has me excited and looking forward to what’s in store for this upcoming tour.”

“It’s like my entire record collection came to life, got all scrambled up and all the band members got reassigned, in a really great way,” Tibbie X, who also fronts the churning cauldron of sex and punk known as GASH, says. “On top of it all I get to be in the band with members of Dead Kennedy’s, Reagan Youth and Dr. Know. Amazing.”

4/14. Santa Maria – O’Sullivan’s
4/15. Paso Robles – Mannys
4/16. Fresno – Audie’s olympic
4/17. San Fran – Parkside
4/18. Sonoma – 755 After Dark

Sudden Sway, Solo – Store Detective Man (1988)

Track 2 from the 1988 album “’76 Kids Forever” by the brilliant Sudden Sway.

WIKIPEDIA:
Sudden Sway were a pop group from Peterborough, England, formed in 1980. They recorded two sessions for John Peel and released three albums before splitting up in the early 1990s.

The band was formed in 1980 by Mike McGuire (vocals) and Steve Rolls (Guitar) after disbanding 1st generation punk band The Now. They recruited Pete Jostins (Bass), Shaun Foreman (Guitar & Keyboards) and Colin Meech (Drums), with various others contributing in their early days. They were initially influenced by bands such as A Certain Ratio and Shriekback. Their first releases were two self-financed singles, “Jane’s Third Party” and the To You, With Regard EP, in 1980 and 1981 respectively. The latter was sufficiently successful to attract major-label interest from CBS and Virgin Records, but after a further single on their own ‘Chant’ label, and with guitarist Simon Childs added as a permanent member, they signed a deal with Warners subsidiary Blanco y Negro, debuting on the label in 1986 with eight versions of the single “Sing Song”. After releasing the Spacemate package – a double LP, book, poster, set of cards and instruction manual, packaged together in a soap box container and designed by Jon Wozencroft, the band moved on to indie label Rough Trade Records, where they would stay for the rest of their career. Their fondness for remixes was evident on their first Rough Trade release, a 7-inch EP featuring eight, 1 minute songs and titles “Autumn Cut Back Job Lot Offer”, released in early 1987. The following year, they released their second album, ’76 Kids Forever, which they described as a “soap opera musical”. With Childs departing, the band continued for one final effort, 1990’s Ko-Opera album, before splitting up.

The band recorded two sessions for John Peel’s BBC Radio 1 programme, in 1983 (Let’s Evolve, Relationships) and 1984 (A Walk in the Park, Problem-Solving Broadcasts 1-3, T Minus Tranquility), the first released as an EP in 1986. They also made an appearance on Whistle Test, performing “Packet of Vacuum”.

I decided to do a softer rock track to contrast the last track that I did a few days ago. Still, this one has elements of grunge rock in it that makes it more at home with grunge, so I named it after the town of “Aberdeen”, which is where the band Nirvana originally came from.

I hope you like it. 🙂
