An acrobat fell 100ft to his death in front of thousands of people during a music festival in Spain.
Pedro Aunion Monroy was performing at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, last night when tragedy struck.
The 42-year-old, who is reported to have been living in Brighton, was a respected performer and was the director of an aerial dance company, called In Fact.
After the fall, paramedics rushed to the scene, however it was later announced Pedro had died from his injuries.
Some people have criticised the festival organiser for not cancelling the event after the incident, other walked in disgust’ as Green Day took to the stage, the Mirror reports.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
Green Day released a statement shortly after in which they implied they didn’t know Pedro had died.
They tweeted: “We just got off stage at Mad Cool Festival to disturbing news. A very brave artist named Pedro lost his life tonight in a tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
Organisers of Mad Cool released a statement after the show finished in the early hours of this morning.
It read: “Mad Cool Festival regrets the terrible accident that an acrobat suffered during the second day of the festival.
“For security reasons, the festival decided to continue with the programme.
“We send our most sincere condolences to his family. Tomorrow, Saturday 8th, during the festival we will pay tribute to the artist.”
Shocked festival-goers took to social media to say they were leaving the festival and expressing their disbelief that it was continuing.
Green Day’s classic hit ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’ is the subject of Stephen’s new segment, ‘Lyrics We Can Afford To Songs We Love.’
