AMERICAN IDIOT features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. The book is by Armstrong and Michael Mayer and direction is by Tony Award®-winner Mayer (“Spring Awakening”). Its hit songs include “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track “American Idiot” from Green Day’s 2004 Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum album. Also included are several songs from Green Day’s 2009 release “21st Century Breakdown,” and an unreleased love song, “When It’s Time.”
“We’re excited to be bringing the US stage production of American Idiot to the UK and Ireland,” said Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. “We played to some of the most insane crowds when we toured the album there, and we can’t wait for our friends across the pond to see the musical.”
The acclaimed creative team includes choreography by British Olivier Award-winner Steven Hoggett (“Black Watch”), and music supervision, orchestrations
and arrangements by Pulitzer Prize-winner Tom Kitt (“Next to Normal”). The Tony Award®-winning scenic design by Christine Jones and theTony Award®-winning lighting design by Kevin Adams will also be featured in the tour.
Winner of two Tony Awards® and the 2010 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, AMERICAN IDIOT premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2009. In April 2010, the musical opened on Broadway where reviews were unanimously positive and it ran for over a year.

You’ll have to forgive the poor camerawork, it’s very difficult to hold the camera perfectly still while zoomed in that far.

Here’s a new video I’ve created on Green Day’s discography: all their ep’s, studio albums, compilations and live albums, from 1989 to 2016, with their release year. This video is perfect for anyone wishing to get closer to Green Day for the first time.
Here’s some footage of Green Day performing “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” live at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada on April 11th 2013.
I was right on the general admission floor so please forgive the horrific cinematography.
These guys never disappoint. They put on another memorable show, as always.

This is how Nimrod would’ve sounded like if Green Day kept their E flat tuning like Kerplunk, Dookie, and Insomniac. For Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) I chose to use the demo because it was recorded around the Dookie/Insomniac era and it was tuned to E flat anyways. Enjoy!

Green Day – Longview – Oakland, Live, 8-5-17, 1st row, Oakland Coliseum. Billie Joe: You! OK, get your ass up here! 😛 ~3:15
Billie Joe: I need a singer right now! lol
Hometown show! For ‘Know Your Enemy’, ‘Longview’ and ‘Knowledge’, Billie invited a fan to sing and play the guitar with them. 2 of the fans picked out were standing adjacent to me, lol. Many of the fans recognized each other from previous Green Day concerts. In fact, the kid who played ‘Longview and J.A.R.’ last year on the guitar and who was featured in the ‘Spotify Landmark Series: Green Day The Early Years’, was next to me in the VIP line.
For the VIPs, we received, among other things, the opportunity to watch the band sound check from the stadium’s suites. Two of the songs sound checked were ‘Homecoming’ and ‘Too Dumb to Die’, but neither was performed. Like Oakland Arena, they have an early curfew at ~11:00, so perhaps there was not enough time before the scheduled fireworks.
To further celebrate the homecoming, the band held a Pop-Up Shop at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records in Oakland for 2 days, complete with exclusive merchandise, giveaways, free Oakland Coffee, and appearances by the Drunk Bunny and the A’s Mascot, Stomper. Upon opening, there was a ~30-fan long line out the door. The first 250 Idiot Nation Fan Club members got 2 free tries on the carnival claw machine to win miniature stuffed pink or green drunk bunnies. Only 25 of the green bunnies were made and they were all in the machine. I aimed the claw to try to get one of those, but it didn’t hold on 😛 I bought a pair of posters and they gave me a free Oakland Coffee tote bag, which was nice.
The opener was Catfish and the Bottlemen, who was actually scheduled to perform last year with Green Day at Oakland Arena for Not So Silent Night 2016, but they had to cancel. Many were looking forward to seeing them as well.
